Tubless but not Really Update! With Bar as Editor…

Well a bit of a screw up recently which has lead me to publish this article. I find out that most the tires I end up buying only end up lasting me for on average only a season or two (IF I’M LUCKY).. perhaps I may be wrong about this idea but that’s the conclusion I seem to have hit. It seems having been through all four of the seasons the “soupplessness” has rather disappeared into the wind and the punctures become more and more of a frequent occurrence. Years ago on a messed up commute home in Houston, Texas. The story goes that I was thinking about the scarce occurrences of punctures that I had had in recent times and then to my surprise and to karmas liking I hear the sound I had just thought about. My tire screeching the sound “pssssssssst” moments later and since that day let’s just say I have become quite proficient at replacing tires “sans” tire levers. So I ordered new tires after this years Hutchinson’s gave up.

I have a soft spot for Schwalbe as the G-One as they really are such a good gravel tire, I love them! I ordered a set of Schwalbe Pro One’s in 700cc x 28, or so I thought. They came during a week when working was taking up most of my free time so I waited til the weekend to change them out… I did sniff them as soon as they arrived but that’s for another story. Anyways, today I opened their boxes up quickly like a child with a new toy, when all of a sudden I realise that they seem to look a bit smaller then what I had ordered… my suspicion was right. I take a peer at the label to read 23mm, dam. Impatient for new rubber I was still tempted to mount them onto my bike but then I remembered that to be honest I am no weight weenie and nor into S&M and said time to end them back… But I did get my new Revoloop inner tubes, and the new Mucoff inner tube sealant.. Mucoff took a bunch of grief for this advert and whist I am open minded, it is a bit sad…. Could be put under the “can try harder” category if I am being honest.

Not a great ad….

But I was keen to try their new inner tube sealant. I find Mucoff products either a shot out of the park or a complete fail, perhaps like their adverts. Their chain cleaner I hate… their bike spray protect is awesome. I really like the fact the products are biodegradable.

The sealant is weird… not liquidy (not a word) like normal sealants.. more like pink porridge. It’s thick and pink…. Getting into the tubes was a pain. The method they have devised using and o-ring ring to seal against the valve probably works only after millions of attempts to get it right.

100 ml of liquid is going to add more weight I am afraid.. but compared to my belly obviously insignificant. I tried using a normal syringe to apply it but it was just too thick. I made a friken mess. The thick consistency has me a bit worried as to how it will flow to a leak. I haven’t done a proper test by nailing the tire because… they are too expensive if it doesn’t work… So we’ll have to wait to see if it actually does work. I am intrigued but openly what pain it is to get into the tubes.. I could rant more on how rubbish the bottle and its expansion is.. but you go try and main back with me unless your one of those nerds to get it right first time…
